The rain this week brought a bumper crop of mushrooms in Oakland, and Kieran and I enjoyed finding more than a hundred of them yesterday. Today, while hiking in the forested hills, still in Oakland, we found just one tiny group of tiny mushrooms. Kieran, as usual, spotted them with his sharp young eyes. A dozen of them all fit, mirabile visu, on a single oak leaf! It’s always astonishing to be reminded of the many miniature universes just beneath our feet.
