On a trip to Alhambra Creek in the northeast corner of Briones today, we captured a number of different dragonflies in flight using a net. They ain’t easy to catch! Dozens of different species of darners hawked above a dry meadow. Some were in the genus Anax, which includes our largest dragonflies in California, while others were smaller and in the large genus Aeshna, which includes many dragonflies that look very similar.
