One of the great things about living beside lovely Lake Merritt is the chance to witness wonderful wildlife behavior right out your window. This morning a group of Pelecanus occidentalis furiously dove for fish. Below them, an accompanying fleet of cormorants and seagulls cruised along — the birds all seem to “herd” the unseen fish towards shore, where they’re cut off from escape. Sometimes the daring seagulls attempt to snatch fish right out of the pelicans’ mouths!

This was our free lockdown entertainment for today! If only we had David Attenborough to narrate it!
