Some fantastic flowers bloomed on trees in our neighborhood this weekend — they’re some species of Corymbia, a eucalyptus from Western Australia, south of Perth. These are large trees, with flowers in either vivid red, white or fuchsia. On Saturday afternoon, in the golden sunshine, the inflorescences were covered in honeybees. I brought some of the colorful blooms home to draw them. I sent the finished letter to a former newspaper colleague as as a birthday present.
