Even in late autumn here in Northern California we have new Monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) emerging. Given the recently publicized dramatic declines of flying insect populations, we are only too happy to lend a helping hand wherever we can. This Monarch emerged from a chrysalis on my desktop lamp. We’ve often raised Monarchs in the past as part of Oakland’s fantastic Pollinator Posse program.
