Explosions and fierce fire under the 12th Street Dam in Oakland. About 7:50 pm, several loud, deep booms shook the area. A longtime homeless tent camp burned for 20 minutes, with explosions — pop! pop! pop! — all the time. The tents, covered with heavy plastic tarps, burned intensely. Oakland firefighters put the blaze out by 8:15 and are now down in the charred slag with flashlights.

By 8:15 the flames were out.
The steady popping of subsequent explosions is audible.
A view of the wreckage the next morning.
This camp had existed beneath the bridge for several years.
